Adebayo Oyekan

Dr. Adebayo Oyekan is a Professor of Pharmacology at the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences of the Texas Southern University. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine of the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston and Adjunct Associate Professor ofPharmacology at the New York Medical College, Valhalla, New York. He is a faculty at the Graduate Program in Cardiovascular Sciences of the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston. He received his medical training at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria and a doctorate degree in Cardiovascular Pharmacology from King’s College, University of London, England. He is currently the Director of a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded Center for Cardiovascular Diseases at the Texas Southern University and is responsible for leading a research group that focuses on the pathophysiology of cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, renal failure, stroke, and diabetes. Dr. Oyekan’s research activities attract a research funding that nets ~ $900,000 annually and these funds come from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), American Heart Association, and private organizations. He was the recipient of a number of awards including the British Commonwealth Medical fellowship, John Fogarty International Fellowship of the NIH, and the American Heart Association fellowship. He was also a past recipient of the prestigious Rhodes Trust Fellowship that gave him the rare opportunity to work under the tutelage of Sir John Vane, the 1982 Nobel laureate in Physiology/Medicine. He is currently a fellow of the High Blood Pressure Research Council and a member of the Hypertension and Microcirculatory Study Section of the NIH.
